This is the next step on from our intromediate courses, or for those people with some experience on flat water, looking to move up to more challenging conditions, Beaufort Force 3 and some simple tidal flow.

Paddle Strokes

We will now look to apply your strokes in winds up to Force 3.  We will look at blending the strokes and applying tactics to make the boat dance.

Start to develop your independence on the sea, carrying the right personal safety and rescue equipment, with the knowledge of how to use it in the event of an incident.

Bring together all the previous knowledge with an introduction to trip planning.  Be able to confidently plan a simple coastal journey in winds up to Force 3 with a knot of tide.  Consider the common first aid scenarios for sea kayakers.

We focus on developing a solid deep water rescue and self-rescue, in realistic Force 3 conditions.  Gain confidence in the environment and be a proactive team member.

The week end based at Carry Farm Bunkhouse near Tignabruich was great fun and I've come away much more confident of my ability to contribute to the safety and sensible organisation that is required when participating in a group paddle.
